In a much anticipated return match between the Philippine women’s team, Filipinas and the Australian team Matildas, could not have been more historic than being the opening game of the AFC .
Congratulations to the Matildas for winning 1:0 with the header by its Team Captain, Sam Kerr at 13:40 game time.  Filipinas ought to be congratulated for keeping that score to the finish, with extra game time of five minutes.  This showed a big improvement as they got walloped 8:0 when they last met in 2023.
Filipinas showed more attacking attempts during the second half, while the Matildas continued attempting for a second goal without the result they wanted.  At 28:58 game time, Hayley Raso successfully kicked a goal into the net.  However, the Video Assist Referee (VAR) ruled that she was  off-side (although by not much) and the goal was disallowed.
The Filipinas can be proud of their narrow lost to the Matildas.  In my opinion, the heroine of the team in their opening game in the AFC Asian’s Women’s Cup Australia 2026 was Olivia McDaniel, its formidable Goalkeeper.  She defended a number of corner and shots at goal.

Both Filipinas and Matildas will be back in action on Thursday, March 5th at the Gold Coast stadium.  Filipinas will play vs Korea while Matildas play vs Iran.   On March 8th,, Filipinas play in the same venue vs Iran.  The Matildas will be playing on the same date at Stadium Australia in Sydney Olympic vs Korea.  Hep hep hooray Aussies!!!   Laban Filipinas!!!

Despite only watching the tv broadcast, it was very exciting watching the Opening Game of the AFC Asian Women’s Championship Australia 2026.   I am looking forward to watching Filipinas games at the Gold Coast with fellow kababayans!
