This Friday Western Sydney will come alive as we mark one week until the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ kicks off on 1 March, with the lighting of a giant floating football installation on the Parramatta River.
The milestone moment will feature NSW Minister for Women the Hon. Jodie Harrison MP, Chief Operating Officer AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ Local Organising Committee Sarah Walsh, Lord Mayor of the City of Parramatta, Cr Martin Zaiter, Donna Davis, Labor Member for Parramatta and tournament mascot Naara, officially launching the final countdown to the tournament.
The 4x4 metre inflatable football will illuminate the river beside Lennox Bridge, creating a striking visual marker of the tournament’s arrival in Western Sydney.
This will be a strong visual and interview opportunity ahead of the city-wide celebrations, including a one-night-only drone spectacular over Darling Harbour the following night, Sunday 22 February, with two 500-drone shows lighting up Cockle Bay.
